'Mt Best Life' is a Social Prescribing Service that was introduced in Barnsley in April 2017. The Service has been developed to help support people who go to see their GP often with social, emotional or practical needs, and where medical input or a prescription for medication does not often help or is needed.
For our patients that have non-medical needs our GPs are now able to put these patients in touch with someone from 'My Best Life' who will talk to them to find out what help or support they need. This may be help or support with money worries, relationship difficulties, counselling or finding social/activity groups to attend to help with people who are lonely and feel isolated.
The type of support will vary depending on each individuals needs and could be as simple as signposting someone to a local group to do activities such as Bingo, knitting etc or getting advice on managing and budgeting their finances.
The major benefits for people being referred to 'My Best Life' will be an improvement in their health, wellbeing and quality of life and a reduction in social isolation, exclusion and loneliness. It will enable people to manage their own health and improve their social networks.
If you feel you or someone you know would benefit from 'My Best Life, you can either contact the service directly on 0114 2900 200 or 0800 1380 380 or if you would like more information on this service then please contact Sharon Copeland, Practice Manager who is our Social Prescribing Champion in the practice on 01709 886490.
